This presentation can help you to avoid problems when using Partitioning.The oneliner is: Simple Works Best.The experience (and possibly some demos) is mainly Oracle based, but I am investigating the possibilities of PostgreSQL as well.PostgreSQL is only Starting to get the benefits, but there is Real Potential here.I am creating two very similar demos, one on Oracle and one on PostgreSQLDemonstrating both Successful and Erroneous usage of partitioning.But the real lessons are in the principles, and the correct understanding of partitioning.Real benefits will only result of you can allow a correct, from-the-start design of the datamodel to incorporate partitioning.
